Option X29

The NEC released the Option X29 clauses to help the construction industry reduce its impact on climate change. These clauses can be used to set out clear requirements for contractors to reduce their carbon emissions and improve their sustainability practices.
But if you are not yet using NEC Contracts and X29, we still encourage you to consider implementing similar clauses in your existing contracts. This will help to ensure that your consultants and contractors have clear roles, responsibilities and targets for reducing negative impacts and delivering greener projects. Option X29 includes requirements for contractors to use sustainable materials and practices; recycle, reduce waste and emissions; and report on their performance. You can do the same in your contracts.
