The Project Profession
We have published a few posts this year around the theme of “the Project Profession”, starting with avoiding-high-costs-through-professional-project-management. There was the short-lived buzz of excitement mid-2024 when a client’s RFP asked for project management professionals (and denoted Registered Project Professionals - RPP) to be included in bids, only for that to be amended shortly afterwards via a tender addendum. There is the continued promotion of “the Project Profession”, by the APM, PMI and other organisations. Yet there remains no government list for project management firms to tender for consultancy work in Hong Kong, which is geared towards large architectural, engineering and quantity surveying companies instead. The same is true for many of the larger non-governmental clients in Hong Kong. Perhaps 2025 could be the year that this situation begins to change, and that recognition of the value of “the Project Profession” begins to seep into the thinking of procuring bodies throughout the Hong Kong (and wider, regional) construction industry. Clients, employ a project professional to lead your next project, and see the difference it will make!
